Panelists

Panelists were fellow artists and arts professionals who selected the Award recipients through peer review across dance, film/video, music, theatre, and the visual arts.

Artists did not apply directly. Each year, a rotating group of fifty museum, artistic, and festival directors, curators, critics, scholars, and esteemed artists nominated artists anonymously. Nominees were invited to apply, submitting work samples and responses to several questions.

Three-person panels in each discipline reviewed the submissions and selected the recipients. Nominators and panelists changed annually, bringing different perspectives and knowledge of contemporary art practices to the process.
