Actor, performer, and writer Becca Blackwell creates dark, adventurous, entertaining and passionate, hilarious and utterly personal performances that draw on queer theory, classic standup comedy, the scatological, and the challenging presence of a charged body in theatrical space. Framing a dialectic between chaos and order and taking the reins of narrating their own story, Blackwell creates a live space for earnest conversation with the audience, fashioning a universe of potentials within what is unresolved, nonconforming and shapeshifting. Their work asks viewers to contemplate the energies of ‘in-betweenness,’ and to consider what it means to be ‘authentic.’ In short, fueling the future of theater-making they situate the stage as a place of possibility and joy. In addition to their solo work, they have collaborated with numerous other artists including Young Jean Lee, Jennifer Miller’s Circus Amok, Richard Maxwell, Erin Markey, Sharon Hayes, Theater of the Two Headed Calf, and Lisa D’Amour.
